The father of a five year-old boy remarked recently about the Kennedy Heights Montessori Center, "This place is one of the best kept secrets in Cincinnati." His son was completing his kindergarten year at the pre-school, located adjacent to Woodford Paideia School, and the family was very sorry to be moving on.

KHMC was begun in 1965, when a group of parents, Black and White, from Kennedy Heights and Pleasant Ridge, recognized that they had far more in common than the superficial difference in skin color and wanted their children to grow up in this knowledge. One of their shared values was education. They began the Kennedy Heights Nursery School as a Parent Co-op in the basement of the Presbyterian Church, with two half-day Montessori classes and serving 30 children.

KHMC now occupies a wing of Woodford Paideia School and serves up to ninety-six children (ages 3-6) and their families. Its Montessori program is one of Cincinnati's best. The school is Head Start Enhanced, participates in the Hamilton County Department of Jobs and Family Services voucher program, United Way (4C’s) subsidies, and the Community Chest voucher programs, and provides scholarship funds raised by the school. Parent involvement is required.

KHMC requires priority admission for Kennedy Heights and Pleasant Ridge residents and siblings of previous students. The classes are balanced with regard to age, gender and race.
